The emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020 set the foundation for health standards about what offers true disinfection. The use of ultraviolet light came into the spotlight as an effective disinfection tool for preventing the spread of COVID-19. UV-C kills viruses by damaging their DNA and RNA, which are the bioorganic building blocks for life.
The problem was that there was little research showing what UV dosage would kill the virus. What wavelength? How long? Could it be used systematically in public spaces without causing long-term damage to people?
In mid-2020 researchers from Binghamton University’s Thomas J. Watson College of Engineering and Applied Science received a grant to pursue the answers to these questions. The team exposed a retrovirus like SARS-CoV-2 to three different wavelengths in the UV-C range. Their research concluded that the best results came from a range of 260 to 280 nanometers, which is commonly used in LED UV-C lights. Wavelengths below 260 nanometers were shown to damage human skin and eyes and therefore could not be deployed in public spaces.
Their research has been used to set a scientific basis for standardising the correct dosage of UV-C light to eradicate SARS-CoV-2.
Congress Rental is a proud distributor of SAGE UV-C Disinfection Solutions which has been clinically proven to kill up to 99.9% of bacteria and viruses at a distance. The patented technology of the SAGE system allows for automated disinfection, miniaturised deployment, easy cleaning, and the combination of UV-A, UV-B, UV-C & violet-blue light disinfection. This system comes at a fraction of the cost of alternative UV solutions.
The SAGE Disinfection state-of-the-art solution is used across a wide variety of applications. Including the following.
Healthcare
With the insufficiency of manual-only cleaning methods, and loss of efficacy of certain chemical disinfectants, it is critical for healthcare facilities to have alternate solutions to help them tackle the bacteria and viruses that lead to unnecessary and costly infections. Implementing automatic UV-C disinfection is safe, effective, affordable, and offers frequent disinfection whenever and wherever it is needed.
Hotels
Given the value customers place on cleanliness, ultraviolet light should become a key component of cleaning protocols for hotels to not only implement better disinfection but potentially drive higher guest satisfaction, increased premiums and occupancy rates.
Offices
Given the value that clean, healthy buildings can produce, it is advantageous to businesses to add ultraviolet technology as a cost-effective way to disinfect air and surfaces throughout their facilities.
Schools
Disinfection is a critical component of comprehensive strategies being put in place to make our schools, colleges, and universities safer for students and staff.
Sports
Sports organizations and gyms utilize SAGE disinfection solutions to keep athletes and staff healthy and in the game.
