Top 10 Tips for Audio Transcription

Transcription is the process of converting audio into written text and it is used for producing a written record of important events. Audio transcription is invaluable to many post conference procedures, however, it is important to note that an unclear, low quality recording can limit the amount of value.

If you’re looking for high quality audio transcripts, here are our Top 10 Tips:

  1. Use a trusted supplier for high quality microphones and recordings.
  2. Ensure that all recorders and microphones are working prior to the event. Do a test run with your supplier.
  3. Centre all microphones or recording devices in front or between delegates.
  4. Inform event speakers that the audio will be recorded and request that they always switch on their microphones when beginning to talk.
  5. Delegates must speak as clearly as possible and avoid mumbling when addressing the other delegates at the meeting.
  6. The chair of the event must request speakers to introduce themselves at the beginning of the discussion.
  7. No overlapping conversations should occur and the chair of the event should manage this at all times.
  8. Meeting locations must be located in quiet areas that limit background noise as this could interfere with the recorded audio.
  9. Always have a back of up the recording.
  10. At the close of the event, the following must be supplied to the company performing the transcription:
    • A complete attendance register
    • Specific keywords or jargon used
    • The full meeting name
    • The meeting program
